LONGi Unveils Dual Breakthroughs at SNEC 2025 — Shattering PV Efficiency Records

Posted by Nastech on 20th Jun 2025

At the recent SNEC 2025 solar expo held June 11–13 in Shanghai, solar powerhouse LONGi made waves with not one, but two groundbreaking efficiency milestones—both setting new global records and being promptly included in the 66th edition of the authoritative Solar Cell Efficiency Tables

1. ✅ 33 % Efficiency on Large-Area Silicon‑Perovskite Tandem Cells

  • A 260.9 cm² crystalline silicon–perovskite two-terminal tandem cell reached a certified 33 % conversion efficiency—a world-first for large-area tandem cells

  • This represents a ~20 % jump from conventional single‑junction silicon cells, marking a major step toward reducing PV energy costs .

2. ⚡ Over 26 % Efficiency in Back‑Contact Crystalline Silicon Modules

  • LONGi’s back‑contact (BC) module efficiency surpassed 26 %, edging closer to the ceiling of crystalline silicon technology

  • These BC modules, including the new Hybrid Interdigitated BC (HIBC) design, draw on innovations certified at 27.81 % cell efficiency—confirmed by Germany’s ISFH in April 2025—reinforcing the tech's commercial trajectory

 Innovation + Collaboration: LONGi’s Twin-Engine Strategy

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, LONGi is doubling down on “Innovation + Collaboration.” CTO Li Zhenguo highlighted the company’s commitment to exploring multiple tech pathways—from next-gen tandem stacks to BC and hydrogen research—through an open R&D ecosystem with global partners

“The era of photovoltaics as a dominant energy source has arrived, yet challenges like energy storage and grid integration remain. Only through collaborative innovation can clean energy truly benefit everyone.

 Why This Matters

  • Tandem cells at scale: Achieving 33 % on a large area is a major leap forward, moving tandem technology from lab to rooftop.

  • Closing the BC gap: Hitting over 26 % for modules brings us close to the theoretical limits of crystalline silicon.

What’s Next

Expect to see LONGi scale up production of these tandem and BC technologies. As these technologies mature, the solar industry may enter a “25 %+ era” of standardized module efficiency, with cascading impacts across energy, transport, and grid integration.

In Summary: LONGi’s dual breakthroughs at SNEC 2025—a 33 % tandem cell and >26 % BC modules—are more than record-setting achievements; they mark the beginning of a high-efficiency era in photovoltaics. With strategic collaboration and innovation, LONGi is accelerating PV's journey to becoming the world’s dominant clean energy source.
